The first way is to sign up for informed delivery. This is something that is provided to you by the United States Postal Services. Basically, they will inform you of any of the mail that you might have on its way. You will get an email on a regular basis that tells you the physical mail that you will be receiving each day. This is one of the best ways that you are going to know which items you can expect. Therefore, if you know that you are supposed to be receiving something and you did not, then you can contact the post office so that they can begin a search for the mail. There is a potential that mail tampering could have happened to you.
2. Alerts
The second way is to request to get an alert from any of the people that you are supposed to be getting packages from. This will be an alert from the shipping company who shipped your package to you. Basically, you will know exactly when your packages have been delivered to your home. Most of the time, the company will send you a text, email, or give you a phone call when their delivery person delivered it to you and where they put the package.
Therefore, if you come home and the package is not there, then you will know that someone has taken your package. The alert will also update you through the tracking of the package so that you will know when they expect the delivery of your package.
3. Cameras
The third way is to install surveillance cameras around your home. This is the best way that you can watch your mail and prevent the chances of any of tampering of the mail happening to you. This might be more popular for the commercial mailboxes but it is also going to work for residential mailboxes too. If the people that might be tempted to tamper with your mail know that you have the surveillance cameras, then they are going to be a lot less likely to want to touch your mail. But you want to make sure that you are not making it too obvious.
For example, you can get the cameras that are smaller in size so that they are not as noticeable. The only thing that you will need to do is to put up a sign around the mailbox letting people know that the property is under surveillance.
4. P.O. Box
The fourth way is to rent a P.O. Box, for example, the post office in Times Square. This is especially true if you are considered about the safety of your mail. This decreases the chances of someone tampering with your mail. Basically, the mail will go from being delivered to the post office to your box.
If the mail is not being delivered to your home, then you don’t have to worry about the mail sitting on your porch or inside of the mailbox for a long period of time. You will only be able to get into the P.O. box if you know the combination or have the key to open it. This means that you will be able to get your mail when it is convenient for you.
